The Pilates Method of exercise is a physical training regime based on the body in motion. It focuses on core strength or the "powerhouse". The system is renowned for lengthening and strengthening muscles and shaping the body.
The Pilates method is based on the work of Joseph Pilates who incorporated seven principles that enhance the quality of the workout. These are: breath, concentration, control, centering, precision, memory and flow. All these principles are not limited to the method; they can be applied to daily life or to other forms of exercise.
History
German born Joseph Pilates designed a system of exercise based on aerobic moves, yoga and Sun Salutes.
